Traffic accidents or physical abuse incidents sometimes involve employees of a school or the City, State or Federal government. Slip-and-fall cases also can involve government offices and schools. Different rules apply to these claims if the government employee was on-the-clock at the time. The rules are different depending on whether the claim is against the Federal Government or against a state or local government. Sometimes you have only 180 days to present something called a “Notice of Claim.” This notice has to be fairly complete with all of the information and medical bills needed for the government office to evaluate your claim. If the Notice of Claim is lacking in some way, you are often prevented from going any further with the claim.
